Can Dogs See Ghosts? - Real Ghost Stories

Can Dogs See Ghosts?

When I was younger and lived with my parents our dog would occasionally display some pretty odd behaviour, even for her. She would at times become strangely disturbed by things unseen to us, she would start barking and growling and take on an offensive attack style posture whilst apparently staring at something that just wasn’t visible to us. She would focus on an area like the ceiling or a corner of the room or occasionally she would stand at the bottom of the stairs barking upwards barking like crazy, or run around following something, stalking something, of which without her we would have remained oblivious.
I know from speaking to others that this sort of behaviour was not particular to our own personal dog, and is a fairly common occurrence witnessed by K9 owning individuals, so are all these dogs just having a funny five minutes, or can dogs see ghosts?

Can Dogs See Ghosts?

Can Dogs See Ghosts?
Can Dogs See Ghosts?
All dogs bark, most dogs will bark at anything of interest or anything that moves, but it is usually aimed at something, so when your dog starts barking and growling towards ‘nothing’ then it’s hard not to feel that chill run up your spine and those goose bumps appear.  But can dogs really see ghosts?  I personally have never seen a ghost, although I have spoken to many people who claim to have seen ghosts it is hard to fully believe in something you have never seen yourself.  But if anything I’ve ever witnessed has come close to convincing me that ghosts exist, it is this strange behaviour displayed by dogs when they seem to see or sense something that I just can not.  It has been noted by many witnesses to such behaviour including myself that when dogs seem to see these ‘ghosts’ or whatever it is they see their behaviour becomes aggressive / defensive, it does not appear to be the same kind of barking a dog might do if, for example a car drove by the window or the door bell rang, but a similar sort of behaviour to what you might expect a dog to perform if their owner were under attack.

Dog Sees Ghost

Do dogs see ghosts? Or are they just hearing something we can’t. After all dogs can hear far better than humans and are capable of hearing frequencies way beyond our listening abilities. Dogs are known to bark at noises they consider familiar or threatening, and just because we can’t hear them doesn’t mean that they aren’t there, and it also doesn’t mean that they’re ghosts, a dog can distinguish the sound of its owners car from cars of the same brand and model from a fair distance away.
But of course this doesn’t mean that dogs don’t see ghosts either, some people report that their dogs barking at unseen entities acts more as a warning and is often accompanied by additional unusual or paranormal phenomenon, such as things moving or shaking of their own accord or even to those who are tuned in and able to see such things the appearance of the ghosts themselves.

  1. Animals have never been told that ghosts aren't 'real' so if they see one, they will of course, react. I've heard similar stories of animals reacting strangely in certain situations, and I also believe that small children are more sensitive than older people, and can sense things that aren't obvious to the adults in the room.

  2. I looked up this site because my 5 year old dog has been acting funny for awhile. She seems to see something in the master bedroom. An older dog we had, now deceased, used to always be staring and growling at something unseen to people.

When our new puppy (now 6 months old) started growling at something in the room - that I can't see, I became more concerned. Now that the older dog will not come into the room to sleep at night (as she has since she was 6 weeks old) and when she is in the room, she hides under an ottoman, I am convinced something is up. She is a herding breed and pretty fearless so this is not normal behavior.

I recall the first time the new puppy saw the ghost (Whatever). He (a blk. lab) was laying at the foot of the bed. It was late and the house was quiet. I was in bed reading. Everyone else in the house was in bed. All of a sudden the puppy sat up and growled (his first growl ever) and stared at something directly in front of him, at the foot of the bed. I looked right where the dog was looking and said: "Be gone!" Just then the puppy swung his body around and faced directly beside me at the side of the bed. Whatever he had seen had moved up directly beside me. It must have moved very quickly because the dog practically swiveled to keep his site on whatever it was! I thought maybe the ghost was checking to see if I could really see it too.

We have been joking about the ghost for sometime, but today the puppy growled for about 5 minutes in the early morning. I don't know much about ghosts, but now that the dogs are afraid to go into the MBR, I am beginning to wonder if they see something that would also scare me. It seems to be stepping up its visits.

Of course - what am I going to do? Anyway, that is why I looked up this site to see if there is any record about dogs seeing ghosts.

    1. I looked this site up because my new puppy is acting very strange. He's a 20 month old French Bulldog, I've had him for a few weeks nowN although I just moved into a new apartment. In our old place, he never did anything. He was very laid back and lazy. When we moved, there's this one spot in my room that he always stares at. He'll stare for up to an hour and a half as long as he's not disturbed. (No he's not mentally disoriented) It's almost as if he's n a trance. Just this morning, he was starting for about 15 minutes, and out of no where he turned around, bolted as fast as he could, jumped up on the bed, and tried to sit in my lap as if he was scared or something. It's not too big of an issue although its starting to creep me out a little bit.

  3. hi, was just curious to find out if dogs do see ghosts. My dog has that thought constantly going through my mind. He will be perfectly calm then out of the blue he will start barking at a wall or even the air. Just this morning he was sitting on bed with me when suddenly he jumps down and starts barking and growling at the wall. when he finaly gets back on my bed he wont come near the head board and sit with me he keeps standing there and growling at the wall behind my headboard. can dogs see ghosts?

  6. Yes, dogs see "something", cats too. And little kids. My kids had friends over, teh next day, the oldest girl sadi to her mom..."I was playing with these strange balls of light at thier house. They came to me early in the morning." oh yeah, also, did I already tell you about my husband seeing his gaurdian angel? I think I did, so I wont reapeat it all now just in case..But its a good story, and shows that not everything is scary. Theres good stuff too, but dogs will bark cuz they dont know who it is.

  7. Ok speaking as a paranormal investigator I have been told by psychics and read several times that the reason that people cananot see ghosts is because we are blocking it from our mind. A good friend of mine who is a medium tells me there are ways to open up the senses to better see or communicate with spirits and believe me it does work, I saw my dead grandfather not too long ago. This block comes when we are about 6 or 7 years old so yes, babies and toddlers can see ghosts too. If you are around young children try and watch their behaviors, I have seen my 2 year old neice often waving to the same spot of the kitchen often and offering her cookie to who I believe is a dead relative coming to visit. As far as animals, they are also without this block. I have heard stories of all kinds of animals acting strangely when in the presence of an entity. Some growl or bark like you have stated, some will be facinated with a room or an object, some look as if being petted and some will even do tricks for no one. Dogs have become very helpful in the paranormal world and many ghost hunters will bring them along on investigations for this ability and their ability to sence emf changes which is a whole other subject. Hope this helps.

  8. my dog has been acting very oddly lately. She has always been the silent type. she never barked or growled at strangers or other animals. for years I was convinced she was a mute. she has always been a very friendly and social dog. lately she has become very reserved and sits in her basket and cries, she seems really depressed. however lately she has taken to growling at nothing. I woke up last night to the sound of her barking (which she never does)and again tonight as I was in the kitchen she ran into the other room and started growling for no obvious reason. At night I keep here locked into a big pen in the garden. When I put here in there tonight she started to cry.

Now I'm not saying that she is or isn't seeing a spirit, not yet anyway. but random growling and barking at nothing seems to be more common than I realised. So maybe she can see things I can't

  9. I have two Golden Retrievers, now 12. The male is very close at all times to me. I, my children have had many experiences with many paranormal happenings throughout our life. I even moved to a new home over 6 years ago, but many paranormal events have happened. The first time I really ralized it was I was going in for a sleep study and wanted to see if I did snore. Well this voice activated tape I heard showed me indeed I did, but many other voices and noises were on it. My Male Golden knows when there is something he sees not right. It usually is him staring down the stairs or the hallway, and he growls very lowly. He never uses this growl or does not growl. I am a very strong believer that yes at least he does see. If experiences keep on happening, I will indeed need help resolving these interferences in my home. It seems to draw energy from me and will wake me up by directly talking in my ear. One voice on the tape did sound in the background, yelling get out, but it seemed it was trying to order not me or the family out this male was ordering the unknown out. The voice was indeed familiar someone that has passed in the year 2000. In our case I do feel that it is certain individuals that are sensitives and they follow. So I know some dogs do see ghosts. When late at night I hear that growl and him staring I then am stern and tell this is my home do not bother any of us in her leave. He then will calm down again, my dog and go to his bed and sleep. Have I seen them at times. But I have evidence on tape which indeed was not on for that purpose that voices are there not any of ours. I will come to this site again and tell more for non believers. Even non believers have heard basically to get out of the way when they stood at top of the stairs.

  10. Dogs probadly do see ghost and warn people because a dog protects it's owner. I personally have had a ghost experience in a haunted house and do believe they exsit. This happened when I was five. My family actually had to move out of the house. But I hope and believe there are good ghosts and angels.

  11. Just the other day I went to visit my sister out on her property. They have the main house which she and her husband and kids live in and then there is the cottage down the way a little bit, where my mum is living.

They have lived there now for about 4 - 5 years. My sister has a dog who is a year old now. And he as well as the other pets have free reign to go and see my mum when ever they like.

So the other day I go out there for a visit, and my sister tells me that there appears to be something upsetting the dog. On the way to mums cottage there is a shed where bits and pieces etc are kept and he starts to act very strange as soon as he gets there. He will not enter the shed, even when My sister went in there and made out she was in some kind of distress, you could see he wanted to, but whatever was there was way too scary for him.

We got him to pass the shed, but he had to pass as far away as he could get. Then we get to mums and he stops dead in his tracks and wont enter my mums house either. We tried everything we could to entice him inside, but he still wouldn't come. He is a typically jealous dog, so when my sister makes a fuss of the other pets he always trys to nudge them out of the way. So she decided to play with one of the other dogs, picked him up gave him cuddles etc.

But No Way... he did not budge.

This has never happened before. I don't know what he can see, and to some extent I think I am glad I can't see what he can see. I don't know if it is a spirit that he is seeing, but whatever it is it is freaking him out!

I personally believe in spirits and I think that is what he is seeing. But of course to all the skeptics I have no proof.

  12. Hi All, I am sitting on the fence a little on this one as I believe that most of these occurences could be explained by dogs listening, concentrating (staring into space rather than at something) and responding to noises outside the range of our hearing. However notice i said 'most'.....

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm sure they do, of course it may not always be an actual spirit as bwpotman makes a good point about them listening.

Cats see them too, my friends house always had strange goings on and a cold spot on the landing and one day her cat looked just above us between our shoulders and hissed! Needless to say we looked back and moved quick!

Our horse used to always spook at an old gate when out riding, he normally only spooked if something moved or was different but it was just a field. We later found out that the tree past that gate was known as the old hanging tree so perhaps he could see a convict of old!

I've had plenty of run ins with the other side, you can sense them just as you can living people. We can all recognise that buzzing, bad angry energy in a room if someone is angry and we can sense it from spirits too. We no doubt can sense the good ones too, have you ever had that great happy feeling of warmth for no apparent reason and felt like smiling?

My mum tells me that when I was about 4 she caught me chatting away at night to an old lady whom I said was 'keeping the skeleton man away!' I was adamant that she was real and set her a place at the table that morning for breakfast, when I described her & her mannerisms to my nan she matched the description of my late great grandmother whom I had never met!

  14. i strongly believe in ghosts and that animals and young infants can see such things but my point is if someone strongly believes in the "unbelivable" why cant we see them too?

  15. While staying at a hotel in Santa Fe Springs my red Dachshund started acting scared as soon as it got dark. She's never acted this way before. As the night went on she wouldn't get up on the bed but stayed under a chair and stared at a spot in the corner. When I tried to pick her up and comfort her, I discovered her whole body was tight. Her eyes were really wide like she was afraid to close them. She didn't sleep all night, my husband and I awoke often to find her in the same spot. Her gaze would shift from the corner to over the bed. Once it got light out, she was fine. She hasn't acted that way since in the next two hotels we've stayed at. All we can figure is that she was seeing a ghost. Of course after the fact, I should have snapped pictures, but my concern was that she was sick. Not that there were ghosts in the room.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This is fascinating! I wonder if there is any scientific way to test this?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Animals have a much wider array of sensing..from hearing to smell, while their sight often differs (and I imagine could be better suited in some cases for observing the paranormal) it's very plausible that dogs are quite often more readily able to understand when something is just plain wrong around them.

It's not too uncommon to find a dog used as a credible witness in a ghost story, and of course..Cerberus does guard Hades, no?

  18. I still live with my parents, and back in the beginning of July my family got a puppy, he is a bichon tzu, he is 5 months now. I spend alot of time with him, and he follows me around everywhere I go, I guess I am his favorite. Anyway...sometimes he sleeps with my in my bedroom, he'll usually sleep on the top of my pillow or the end of my bed. it was around 2 in the morning the other night, was having problems going to sleep...i was about to doze off and all of the sudden he sprung up, i turned on the light and he was staring and growling at something at the end of my bed. there is space around both sides of my bed to move around, and his head would follow the "ghost" around my bed, going from one end to the other. i tried to get him to calm down and after a few minutes whatever was in my room disappeared (i guess) and then he stopped. i was kind of terrified at the idea that something could possibly be walking around my bed, watching me at night. i am afraid when my dog isn't with me at night, he is actually a very good guard dog, i feel safe around him, even though he is so tiny! i have had many weird experiences, as well as the rest of my family, in my house, so ive gotten used to the paranormal, but the other night it just freaked me out a little...

  19. I love my sister and see alot of good in her. The other day she came over to my house and my dogs went crazy. They were barking and growling. They never do that. The cable guy was in the house for hours and not bark, the pool guy comes over and no bark. My son's friends my brothers and no bark. Not only were the dogs barking non stop my 1 year old son was screaming and crying and would not look at her. I finally had to send him in the room with my husband. Everytime he would come out of the room and see her, he would start crying in horror and run back in the room!! Am I making something out of nothing??

  20. Other night my husband and I were BBQing and my dog started acting strange. He was looking around the ceiling like there was a fly flying around, but nothing was there. Then he would put his tail between his legs and his whole body was shaking. my husband and I thought it was because of the smoke from the BBQ.

A couple weeks later I took him to Petco to get some toys. He has always loves to go to Petco. We usually go every couple weeks. But while we were there he started acting really strange. He froze in his tracks and started shaking, he would not move. I had to pick him up to get him out of the store. Once we got into the car he was fine again.

Then again last night he did it again. My husband was in the room sleeping and I was in the living room watching TV. All of a sudden my dog started looking up at the ceiling again. His whole body started shaking. I tried to comfort him but he couldnt stop looking around the ceiling. Finally he calmed down and we went to bed. After being in the room for 5 minutes he started doing it again. I even started getting scared so I woke up my husband to show him what was going on. We have no idea what he is seeing or if he has something wrong with him. I'm wondering if he is seeing ghost or if I should take him to the vet.

  22. I think they can, because they have a 6th sense in them, because of this, they can forsee Earthquakes, Storms or floods, and it is 100% true. Spirits do exist and dogs can see them. Thats true.

  23. I do believe that animals do see "spirits" and I also believe that if we were more intune with our surrondings like young children and animals that we could also see them.

I have a mastiff named Toby he was 2 years old when we moved into a new house. The garage area had been remade into a third bedroom and this is where I was going to be sleeping. It was our first night and I was about to go to sleep it was probably around 11:45 and I heared Toby whining and scratching at my door. This was very weird because he always slept with my parents and he had never been one to whine. I got up and opened the door he lunged onto my bed and was whimpering. Now I have never seen a english mastiif hunch down and whimper like that. I got into bed and had him lay next to me and just held him. We stayed like that for about five minutes with him shaking and nudging me constantly. Suddenly Toby jumped to his feet and started growling at wall. I tried to calm him down but he jumped off my bed and stalked across the room growling the entire way. When he reached the wall he kind of snapped at the air and then moved his head to the corner closest to the wall almost like he was stalking something. He moved to stand infront of the corner and started barking thats when I got up and grabbed his collar. I got him out of them room and I ended up sleeping on the couch last night. The next morning I asked my mom way toby had been running the house and she said that he wouldnt go into the room and had decided to lay next to my bedroom door.

  24. i dont know if you guys know anything about getting held or pressed my ghost while you are sleeping, but it happens to me once in a while, some of you may not believe that it happens, but i get it all the time so i've gotten use to it.. that is untill i got sonic my pup which is 5 months old, i woke up to a ghost pressing me and turned to look at sonic who always sleeps in bed with me but he had his bottom to me so i assume he was asleep, all of the sudden i heard him growling i looked at him and saw his eyes following something around my bed.. i immediately screamed because i knew that he could see it, sonic jumped off my bed and chased it to the kitchen and then came back into my room.. it really spooked me out because i had no idea that he could see ghost, since then hes done it once more time but this time i wasnt held down by a ghost, and he often looks around the house barking at nothing, i sure hope that my house isnt haunted ive only been here for almost a year!

  28. Yes I believe animals in general are very sensitive to paranormal activity. I had a small dog I took to a haunted theater and she would not go down stairs at all. She got really scared and ran back down the isle to the back and would not come back into the theater no matter what I did

  29. We have had animals, both dogs and cats, that suddenly seem to stare at something in the room...often above us...and in which we see nothing unusual at the time. So I would tend to agree with the premise of them being able to see (sense) things that most adults cannot.

  30. My Mom has died only 10 days ago. I am writing this because I want to hear your opinion about it.

My Dad and Mom have been hospitalized for different reason in two different hospitals. The last time I saw my Mom was 5p.m., I visited her in the hospital and told her she should call me later that night (she never did). I was alone at my parents house, we have 3 dogs. I went to bed late, but at 3:20a.m. my dogs woke me up barking and making noises in the hallway. they don`t ususally do this until 7a.m. I was pretty mad, got up and calmed them down and opend the door to our backyard for them to go pee. They returned pretty quickly and I went back to bed. At 3:25a.m. the phone rang, and it was a doctor from the hospital telling me the bad news my mom has died and I should come to the hospital.

holy cow ! i mean honestly, these dogs must have sensed my moms death, didn`t they ? What was that ? I keep thinking about it all the time, there is no way this happened accidentally. I really hope my mom will stay in touch with us, but w/o scaring us. My Dad is very very sick, and my Mom really wasnt. she is gone to soon, she was only 56 years old. May be she wants to tell us something.

by the way, i looked the time up on her death certificate it says 3:24a.m. on it. This is way scary and I am not kidding you. I would never lie about my Mom.

  31. Very interesting stuff here. I was mesmerized by the stories and descriptions of paranormal activity. Thanks for posting this great ghost post! And yes, I do believe that pets can see spirits or ?? that we can not. Also the very young, before they're told that they're imagining things.

Check into the books by Sylvia Browne, a well known psychic and she confirms many of these sightings. Cheers.

  32. I wouldnt say dogs can see them. i would say they can ear them and fell them close. if we human with our super sustificated eyes cant see ghosts so is kind of obvius that dogs cant see them. also they are energy invisible to normal light.

  34. Well you guys may think I'm crazy but lately my dog( she's 3 years old) has been keeping me up barking at about the same time for about a week now. I don't know if she can see it but I'm preety sure she can. I keep her in a good size cage at night when I got to bed so I can sleep without he in my way but when she started barking I kinda just let her bark until it got really bad one night where she wouldn't go to sleep. So being observitive I went into the living room and sat on the couch and watched her in her cage stare down the hallway and just keep barking. Well I decided enough was enough and got it in my head that she can see ghosts( still sure she can though) so I took a blanket and blocked her view and went back to bed. Sure enough she stopped barking so I don't know if it was a ghost or something else but I have had experience with them in the past.

I moved into my great grandmothers house after she passed away and about a week of living there I felt this wierd presence in the attic( which is dumb cuz that's where I put my room since it was

always hot up there. Well 2 years went by just fine until my little sister woke up in the middle of the night laughing so me and my mom went to go check it out and as we walked into her room a dark figure was standing at the end of her bed( by this time I'm scared and run back to my room) and then at about 2 or 3 in the morning I glance over and see it again. I rolled over and turned my tv on the Christian channel and turned the sound up really loud and went to bed. Well when I got up the next morning the door that led into the roof of the house was unpadlocked and open. LOL you guys might not believe me but it's to crazy to make up and ithink the ghost from my greatgrand mothers house might have filled and my dog can see it. Btw I don't think that excorsims help....

  35. First let me describe the way I sleep. Like a rock, seems to come to mind... Just about nothing can wake me up except for someone walking into the room. I always sleep through my alarms and no amount of sunlight will wake me. I either just have to wake up naturally or be physically woken up by someone. There was even one time my family left me at home alone I locked all the doors and went up to lay down and listen to music. Well I had my radio blasting on my night stand and I fell asleep. Well they tried to get into the house for an hour, they pounded on the door, honked the horn, rang the door bell etc. All the while I am asleep, finally they send my sister to climb through a window she lets them in and they come into my room and just as they open the door I wake up. So yes like a rock.

Well, when I was about 11 maybe 13 I woke up from a dead sleep. I could feel something watching me, I was so afraid I couldn't move. I broke out in a sweat, and I was just laying there on my stomach feeling this thing watching me from just outside my doorway. It didn't go away for about a half an hour, finally I was able to roll over. I didn't see anything there, but the horrible gut wrenching feeling was gone.

Then there was this time that I was babysitting for someone down the street with my sister. The family was really nice and all the houses in the neighborhood were new. They had two toddlers, since the younger was easier to handle I let my sister take care of her and put her to bed. I was putting the boy to bed got him changed and everything, tucked him in. I was saying goodnight when he sat up, and looked at me completely fracking serious and said you can't leave yet. Me wondering if I had missed some nightly tradition that maybe his mom and dad always do sat back down on his bed and asked him why. And he said "She's not gone yet." I said whos not gone yet, and he pointed at the foot of his bed. He was intent on me not leaving but I was so scared I insisted and I left the door open for him and he went to bed.

My boyfriend and I live in an apartment complex and every now and then my mini-dachshund will start a low growl from nothing usually he just stares right ahead, I chalk it up to neighbors or something. But every now and then I can't help but think about what it could be. Then it makes me very reassured to have either my man or my dog or both with me in the same bed.

My family also has two cats, they are brothers and I adopted them not long after I adopted my mini-dachshund. Well, my sister who still lives at home (granted this is in a completely different state then where everything else had been) said that the other night she was upstairs in the living room with my cat chillen' and chatting on the computer when all of a sudden she hears her cat downstairs in her room freak out. Hissing and sounding like it was being attacked or attacking something. A minute or so after he started freaking out my cat jolted down the stairs and they were both doing it. So she follows them thinking a animal got in the house or a rat maybe (we don't have rats) When she turns the corner to look into her room they are both just sitting there one on the floor the other right above it on the coffee table. Just perched there, and as soon as she looks in they turn from whatever they were staring at to her direction.

I don't know if I want to believe that they can see ghosts, just the thought of them scares me.

  38. My husband had left for work early one morning and I was laying in bed thinking of all my deceased animals. My dog Jasmine was sound asleep next to me in bed. Suddenly she jumped up and started growling at something just above the dresser. She did this for a few minutes and whatever it was lunged at her as she jumped back and jumped to the floor, but never took her eyes off whatever it was. she was growling ferociously. I made shadow puppets above the dresser thinking she was seeing a shadow but she ignored them. She was looking at something else. This went on for 11 minutes and then she got up and walked away like nothing had ever happend. The only thing I can think of is it was my cat Molley that passed away a month before we got Jasmine. I had been thinking of my animals and she came back to visit. A cat might sit on top of a dresser and probably teasingly lunge at a dog. LOL

Also I feel my dog came back to visit us as when he was alive he would take Jasmines bones right out of her mouth. Jasmine would do a half cry half growl thing. She was chewing a bone on our bed and started doing this and staring in the hall at nothing. She did it for a few minutes then stopped and chewed her bone. I know it just doesn't make sense that animals should be able to see ghosts so easily while we have no visions of them whatsoever, but I can't think of any explanation for these two occurances

  39. My dog did that strange constant barking last night. I was in bed and did not see anything. I know he sensed someting, I just let him bark it out. It was my birthday, and I was thinking very strongly about my deceased mother who was only 17 when she had me. I have had contact before, so I just told the dog someone just wanted to say hello. He then calmed down. I am never scared I just feel like I have a guardian angel on. my side

  40. I think that dogs can see ghost. I had an experience the other evening that verified that fact. I was dreaming of my grandfather who passed away when I was one years old. I woke up from my dream lying in the bed fully awoke and I heard foot steps from my living room to my bedroom. I saw a couple of flashes of light near my mirror. Then my dog (who only barks when someone is at the door)was in a defensive pose growling and started to bark. That night I felt like it was someone in my apartment, I am sensitive to presences of any time. I sense things to come and dream about them. I had a dream that my grandfather was able to come to lead my grandmother to heaven. But he had to wait. In my dream he asked for extra time so that he could see the kids and grand-kids, as they are now. I keep having dreams of my grandmother, from her illness to her death. No one even called to let me know she was sick... I had a dream about her being sick and that she would semi-recover. The thing that the doctors cannot see will be her demise. I can't describe what it is... This is a very scary gift and curse that I have. But my dog saw what I saw.

  43. Hi all

Just googled can dogs ghosts and came across this site. we have a nine year old border collie, we've had him from a puppy.

my father in law died a week an half ago. three days ago at around 6am we were all woken up by long wolflike howls from our collie, i let him out in the back garden for a pee and went back to bed, about ten minutes later he started howling like a wolf again.

and then this morning at 7:30 am he started again with the very long wolf howls, we've told our daughters that its grandad playing with him. in the nine years we've had him he has never howled.

The funeral is next week and will be interesting to see if it happens again.

my father in law loved playing and looking after our dog when we went away and likewise our collie loved sitting beside him.

  44. Hey, for the past couple years my dog has been hiding underneath my bed and sometimes in between the couches in the family room. She will get up and run to the sliding door and bark like crazy. I would walk up to the sliding door and see that nothing is there, this would happen during the day. When my dog use to sleep in my parents bathroom she would start barking every night around 11 Pm to 4AM. One night, I woke up to her barking and heard a thump in the kitchen, it hasn't happened since, although I usually live away in college most of the year, so I haven't been updated. My house was built in 1979, we are the second family to live in it, but can my house still be haunted, I need to know.

  46. Well, I just recently got a new poodle puppy, and she's absolutely my world .. All my attention has been set on her ever since I bought her .. We often watch TV together, you know, dog owner and dog bonding, and often in the middle of our favorite show, she mysteriously stares at the ceiling, right about my head .. Freaks me out! and she won't just do it for a couple minutes, she will completely lay her head back and glare at the ceiling for what seems like forever .. So, i researched the whole ''dogs seeing ghosts'' bit and found this site to be especially informative .. As for whether or not she really is seeing a ghost above me, i guess we'll never know?

  47. On 31/5/10 at my girlfriends house, we were sitting in the study listening to music, (it was a sad song) and her dog was sitting on her lap and i was sitting in a seat next to her, when all of a sudden her dog started staring into the corner, and started growling, went on for about 5 mins straight, i got up while looking in the corner and then the dog stopped and went back to normal. He also started staring at the air vent 4 about 30 seconds and then back to normal. The week before which again was Monday,

  48. This is for Erik. Your house was built in 1979 but do you know the history of the land the current house was constructed on? When my husband and I were landscaping the back yard we installed some large boxed trees that required some rather large holes be dug. We kept finding railroad spikes and various tools when digging the planting holes. I did some research and discovered that once upon a time there was a railroad spur that came across my property, and the old train station was about 800 feet away. I've lived here many years and occasionally friends have said they saw "people" in my back yard but there was never anyone there. Perhaps they were just glimpsing an imprint from the past of people from the train station (shrug). Remember the tv commercial "Is it live, or is it Memorex"? lol. I did my research at the local museum and the historical society.

Oh, and my dog has also freaked out barking at something unseen above me at the ceiling. This went on for about 30 minutes and I took her for a walk to distract her and when we came back the dog was fine again. I think my new dog was barking at my late husband. There has been a number of strange things happen since his passing so I prefer to think that he's watching over me :-) It seems to me that quite a few of these reports are of dogs barking at something above and/or to the rear of the people.

  49. It seems that after reading many comments and stories of people's dogs and their experiences, it seems you can not doubt that there may be a truth behind this.

I recall one time in my life where I had a strange encounter. I was in the backyard, quiet, and dark. My dog normally does not bark and even if he does you would know/see/hear the reason why. All of the sudden he barks/growls into the normal air. There was simply silence. Goosebumps popped up all down my spine. I do believe their eyes can tap into the other dimensions and even there other senses (smell, hearing) are very sensitive.

  50. (Qualifier) I have never had a ghost experience that couldn't be explained. My 5 year old white pitbull chloe (who is deaf) is scared of something under the bed and will not sleep with me (which she has everynight almost since I rescued her 4 years ago) --she sits on the bed and waits for something to come out from underneath, being very jumpy, and now refuses to get on the bed, she is clearly scared (at first I thought it was me she was scared of). I am actually quite worried about her because she looks terrified and I don't know how to help her. My cat was killed by a foster dog 2 months ago and a close friend of mine died in February so IF ghosts existed they would be likely presences-- I have never felt like the house had any wierd energy and I have been afraid of the dark in other places. I just want Chloe to relax :(

  51. Hey, this was really very interesting.

My dog is a 3-month old Tibetan mastiff so he is an outdoorsy dog but for a few days he has been crying very early in the morning and walks straight into the house and goes and hides under the sofa or a chair and wants to be right next to us at ALL times. So my mom and I were talking about how he is either seeing ghosts or has sensed death as in maybe someone close by is going to die. So I was wondering if this is in fact possible. I see that many have had experiences of their dogs seeing ghosts but what about death? Maybe it is just a South Asian superstition???

  52. My father died in a house fire in our family home in August and the home was brick so it was not competely destroyed but mainly water damage. The house was Renovated and now my brother and his family lives in the home with an American Bulldog. At first Kame the dog was fine. We had experienced this before and was watching to see how Kame acted in the house to see if he could sense our father's presense. My father was found in the kitchen and now Kame will not walk through the kitchen, even if you have a pork chop holding it at the back door for him to go out back. his food bowl is in the kitchen and he will go to it but it is weird and he backs away really slowly. So now we know that our dad's spirt is now in the home. I am not afraid. I have seen ghost before and have experienced some strange things.

I told my wife that the chair came with something extra.....

  55. I have a pitbull terrior he is about to turn 8 years old. I believe I know my dog very well by now. My grandmother passed a few months back and the morning I recieved the call me and him were in the living room. Within seconds of hanging up with my father he ran out of the room so fast his nails were scrapping the hardwood. This freaked me out so I walk towards the bedroom where he stopped running and began to call him back into the living room. He absolutley refused! So of course by that point i joined him in the bedroom and shut the door. I was really freaked out! That was the first time he had ever done anything even close to that behavior. Over the past few months following that incident he now seems to see things in the living room. It's almost as if something just comes up and bites him. No he does not have fleas. He will all of a sudden run out of the room in the same fashion with his nails scrapping the hardwood. Like he can't get away fast enough. One day he jumped and began to run and I stopped him and told him to "get it" because when we use those words with one of his toys he knows what to do. He bagan starring into the corner of the living room where there was nothing there. Then his head moved as if he was following something coming closer and then he began to smell the air while starring. I never told him to "get it" again! That was to much for me. He doesn't do what the other stories say with the barking and stuff. I think he is definatly seeing something that I can not but I think he is just as terrified as I am. Our house is only a year old and we were here for months before the first experience.

  59. Some people say that ghosts aren't real, like they would really know. My dog, half Chiuaua, half Poodle, is fine most of the time and like a lot of small dogs likes to bark at everybody that she sees. But, when it looks like she sees something we don't she never barks. Especially here lately she will stop or sit up like something has got her attention and she looks up toward the ceiling like she is watching something. No barking but will come get in our lap and just shake like she is scared to death. If we won't hold her she will run out side and sit across the yard till we make her come in. Some times she will run down the hall by the back door and cower in the corner just shaking. What ever it is it scares her to the point she doesn't want to stay in the house. It does freak my wife out, and is weird to watch.

  61. Great video. The fact that your dogs weren't growling and showing aggression probably means the spirit is not evil. My German Shepherd went into my friends extra bedroom where her recently deceased grandparents stuff was. She kept walking back and forth rapidly wagging her tail lookin up on blank wall. She couldn't stop. hmmmmm... it was strange.

Well guys I'm from India I live in an urban area and here still people believe that ghosts and black magic exists even in my family my granma behaves weirdly n granpa n others say some evil spirit has entered her body n wants something from us or like that so they often visit a exorcist somewhere in a village n as they say spirits power has become less n it doesn't visit often but it sure does on full moon nights but it does only when granma knows its goin to be full moon if she doesn know nothing comes i totally believe that anything in this world needs to retain a memory for its functions to work n souls as far as im concerned are just energies (as far as i know we do poses some kind of energy to keep our heart running n food is just the fuel) n as the d law of energy says it gets transforms into some other form n i dun believe an energy can retain memory without any physical form so i believe ghosts doesn exist n my granma has some psychological problem

  65. Cool blog you've got here. Per ghosts, I believe, but the real proof came to me when my great aunt who lived with me died. We knew she was going to die, but the morning of her death, my 1 year old yellow lab- who was never calm! well, he was one after all ;) and my cat who was about 8 years old at the time- and was 'in charge' - both came into my aunts room, and laid down side by side on the floor in front of her bed ALL DAY. It was SO odd for them to stay so calm for so long (the dog!) and that the cat layed next to the big goof ball, normally she kept her space. My niece came to visit and the 1st thing she said when she walked in the room was like, "Oh my god, look at the animals!!" I mean, at that point she didn't even know they'd be like that all day. It was not scary, it was truly beautiful as if Jesus was coming to take her home and the animals saw Him and were at peace. She did die later that day and they went back to being normal dogs and cats. After that, well- yes, they can see what we can not.

Laying there, she will woof, then bark like crazy. It creeps me out...O.o...maybe you could set up a video camera..and...put up the crime scene material tape stuff? I dont know, I saw on a show...ghost hunters...somethin or another, they put that material of tape up, and used noght vision goggles and watched it. Right before their eyes, the tape began to unravel..because someone, or something walked into it....I dont know what you should do..I know what I would do...pack my bags, and find a new house!!!

  68. Well I do believe this in my old apartment when my husband would travel my male pug would jump up from a dead sleep and growl and snarl with his hair on end at this one corner of my room.then some piece of electronic equipment would come on in another room.the last time this happened my stereo in my living room came on full blast with no one else home.this had never happened before nor since.but after moving out my best friends little girl told her that there was a ghost of a man in their apartment that she would see at night (they were my neighbors in the same apartments)when her mom asked where he went she told her to visit me and my husband.this is particularly scary because they never knew anything going on at my apt during that time and her little girl was six at the time.

  69. Hi everyone, in the begginig i'm sory for my english, it's not too good. I had a strange situation today...again with one of my dogs which is closest to me(vega). About 23 p.m, just 3 hours ago I went with my dogs to go for a walk, there was nobody around, no cars and dogs. They were all about 15 meters in front of me when suddenly my girl vega started to run to me...well I thought she was running to me but she starts barking like she was trying to protect me. She didn't stop near my, just run about 10 meters behind my back still barking. I turned but there was nothing i could see, there was also no tree or anything she could mistake with. It was realy weird and because of that i started to looking some answers in internet. It was nt the only time. In december last year when I was also with my dogs and my friend on walk she jumped into me barking and acting very agressive like someone was just behind my back. But she wasn't looking at all. i just don't know what to think about it. I have few dogs but this happens to me only in the evening and not all dogs are acting like this, but only the one who is closest to me, know all my feelings.

  70. I'm unsure what to believe these days. I guess once you get older you DO become more sceptical. Says me being only 18. But when I was younger about 7 I'd say; I saw something at a friends house. She was hosting a sleepover at her house ( A HUGE house consisting of 100 odd rooms ) my friend and I wandered off. There I saw something in a window. A white face peering in yet almost transparent... I was sure then it was a ghost but now I'm not sure. I was young and gullable.

But years onwards, living at my grandparents I started to feel awkward in my bedroom. I could feel 'something' with me. So badly it scared me into moving bedrooms to the spare room. Nothing ever happened though.

Now I live with my partner also 18. And I've started to notice a few things and been adding them up in my head.

One night we went to bed forgetting to lock the front door. The next morning when I woke up my boyfriend told me he woke up at night freezing cold. The bedroom window had been opened. Neither him or me had opened it. I infact make sure it is closed every night to keep warm. He believes it was my dead mother's spirit waking him to remind him the front door was unlocked; which he infact went to lock when woken up.

But the past week he's been telling me he's woken up in the middle of the night unable to move, or talk and struggling to breathe. I've looked this up on the internet desperate to convince myself it couldn't be demonic. Because that's what I felt like was in my old bedroom at my granparents. I have come across sleep paralysis yet the theory involves hallucinations which he doesn't claim to get.

To conclude this, the other night our dog Paterson was curled up next to my partner's side of the bed. He is only 6 months old and is very relaxed. He never barks or growls and he's a friendly dog. Never threatened. Yet one night we heard him growling; half barking staring into the corner of the room by the door. He stayed laid down yet he seemed to have aggressive body language. We both turned our lamps on and saw nothing.

Could all this be pointing to something? 3 of the things I've mentioned have happened in this flat. Yet the other 2 involve me wherever I've been.

I don't know if dogs can see ghosts, but from what I'm experiencing and his behaviour. I feel almost inclined to say yes they do.

It would be appreciated if someone would advise me on what to do and what they think is causing all this. Thankyou.

  72. You need to tell that spirit to move on, It's not healthy for kids to be talking to ghosts like that, You never know the true intentions of such beings, Sometimes they fake to be nice, just so you let your guard down. I would consider contacting a Psychic to make sure your sister doesn't have some other kind of issue. But If she really seeing a ghost, Tell it to GTFO! Be a big siss and protect your little sis.

  73. I looked up your site because I noticed very strange behavior in my 9 year old Newfoundland/Labrodor mix dog. Usually he's a laid back easy-going dog, likes to relax and sleep most of the day. But at about 9:45pm 10/26/2010, all of the sudden, he was running all over the house in sheer terror. As if something or someone was chasing him! He ran through the bathroom into the hallway, then into the livingroom, then back into the bathroom, then he ran into my office and ran around my office to find somewhere to hide. He then went under my desk, knocked down all the cords and cables from the computer attempting to shield himself from whatever was after him. I pulled him out from there (at first I figured that maybe there might be a storm, but heard no lightning). Then still in terror, he hid under a chair, the 109 lb dog squeezed under a small office chair, his body quivering and shaking with fear. He couldn't move, as if he was paralyzed with fright, or having a seizure. So frightened that he leaked fecus on the floor. I petted him and told him that he had nothing to be scared of, and continued to comfort him. ( I also removed and cleaned up his excretions from the carpeting). After about 10 minutes, he got back up & walked out of the room.. but he motioned for me to let him outside. I opened the door to the backyard and he quickly ran out. That was about 4 hours ago or so. Approximently several hours later, I let him back in the house. But he didnt stay in long. Within 5 minutes he wanted back out. This is odd behavior for him. My dog is now too scared to stay in my house, and he's always been an indoor dog! Though he does get scared during a storm, he's never gotten this frightened. I believe that a ghost or spirit must have come into my house, that terrorized my dog. I have demanded the entity to leave my house. Anyhow if you have any ideas on what can be done to get rid of a bad ghost from my home, please let me know.

  74. Last Night I went to see Paranormal Activity 2 not something I would normally do seeing as I am legit terrified of ghosts and stuff like that. I saw it with my sister, and both of us were scared by the movie, we slept in the same room. 5am comes and both of us had waken up almost every hour since trying to go to bed. All of a sudden our dog sleeping next to my side of the be jumps up and starts insanely barking at the bedroom door and did not stop no matter what i said or did to calm her down. This SCARED the CRAP out of me. My mom woke up from the sound and ran into our room asking if we were okay, and as soon as the door opened my dog stopped. Do you think this was ghostly activity? Im scared of what she could of saw. I hope I never encounter this again.

  76. I think dogs/animals see ghosts to but I personally had a few creepy things happen in my house. When i slept in the master bedroom my light flickered so I got up to see what it was and my switch was up the light was off and my bedroom door was a crack open and I always turn it off when I go to bed and on a different day I seen a orb floating on the other side of the room up by the roof. Me and my cousin when we were little heard a thump in the basement so we went to check it out and in between the water heater and the wall was a glowing eye with a red scar down the middle so we went up to turn the light on came back down and it was gone. I was watching Paranormal State and the were recording in a room and when the played it back the heard a deep growl shortly after I heard that same growl beside my bed and recently my DVD player turned on by its self when I was laying across the room on my bed and the remote for the DVD player had no batteries. On the other note I was down stairs with my dad and all of a sudden my dog comes running with his tail in between his legs from the laundry room which was dark.

  77. Me and my dad were sitting down stairs and all of a sudden my dog Jesse came running out of the laundry room with his tail between his legs after that he won't really go back in there again with out someone with him or the light on. Sometimes both my dogs with randomly bark at nothing or they will follow something we can't see. When I was little my dog Scooter went blind and def then he ran away and we couldn't find him and a few years ago we had to put our dog Harley down because he some how got paralyzed from the waist down. Do you think that maybe this is whats causing my dog to go a little crazy?? Or it also could be my grandpas Fred and Stan. They died both from colon cancer a year apart could it also be that they are watching over my parents?

My dog would not go to the foot of the bed like she usually does (under the blankets). She kept shivering so I assumed she was cold so I let her lay in between a pillow that I hug when I sleep and myself. Then I felt the wettness. She urinated on my bed and me which she has never done!!!! She is a chihuahua mix and is very small. I had taken her out to use the rest room not even 30 minutes prior. My kids and myself have had things happen from someone crying in one of my sons room at 4 am which my oldest heard when he went to use the restroom. He jumped down the stairs to the landing and jumped down the second set to get to the living room, (which he ended up with a sore ankle)He was freaked, Then there was a boy sitting in the same room on the bed. It was daytime and my middle son was listening to his radio and he got up to turn it off and go down stairs. He turned and there was a boy with a bowl haircut long sleeved dirty white button up shirt, cut off shorts and suspenders. He was almost in tears when he ran down stairs to tell me. There has been incidents where the same boy (son) has had a bowl thrown at him in that same room. I get a feeling every so often while laying in bed that there is a VERY ugly thing staring at me. If I am facing my closet I feel like it is within inches of my face, if my back is turned I feel like he is right behind my head waiting for me to turn. I don't really get scared of strange things like spirits but this one makes me shake. I feel like he has crazy white hair, a huge grin with his sharp pointed teeth (all of them) showing. I always tell myself to just open my eyes and look, stop getting freaked out, so I finally work up the courage and there is nothing there and I will not get the feeling for the rest of the night.

  79. Hey thanks for sharing your knowledge on the dogs because its a kind of fear that captured my mind from a couple of days though i know a lot of dogs, and i really love dogs. I got really scared some days back when i happened to hear a dog crying very badly late at night. That provoked me go though your article. I seem to have had better picture about dogs now.

Okay we have been experiencing some strange stuff in our home. It has affected two outta the three dogs we have. My husband was able to get one of our dogs responding to something. She was growling and staring intently at something in a corner. Then it seemed as if it went away and then she started to pant heavily. In my honest opinion, I would move out of ur house. I feel that maybe your dogs could potentially be in danger. Its clear that one of ur dogs is extremely scared and it makes me sad to watch. We havent had any sorta of paranormal activity in our home and hope to not see any, lol! I was a skeptic at first but I am a believer now. I have never ever seen my dogs do this before and both dogs within a 5 day time span have sat and stared at something for about 10-15 mins. Its extremely scary. We have some old furniture in our home and I thought maybe its residual energy that they are seeing - iunno. Good Luck to you and I hope that you do move out for you and your pets sake.

  81. I think that dogs, cats, animals in general don't block reality out the same way as we do. I mean, before every natural disaster, f.e. tsunamies, animals react really weird, they tend to flee from it. Is it so that they can sense some kind of pressure in the air, or just know that something's coming? It's good having a pet, it would warn you right before something bad happens...

I know this is kind of off the topic, but when I was little I could see two ghosts/demons? in our apartment. I saw that some of you mentioned that kids under the age of 7-6 can sometimes see things that adults don't see.... I was around 3-4 years old, my sister 6 and when I asked her she says she can't remember that she's ever seen anything weird. I've sort of told myself that it was all a dream, because sometimes you can't see the difference between dreams and reality. But the more I think about it, the more I remember how real it was, and that I actually was awake and couldn't sleep. I didn't even tell my parents..

We had 2 doors to our bedroom. When both of them were closed, nothing happened all night. When only one of them was open, two figures appeared and walked through it. I remember one was an old, woman, I thought she was a witch. The other one was a pretty young man, all white and.. ghostly. So ofcourse I thought of him as the ghost.

I've heard that there are friendly ghosts, that used to be human but now are dead. But I don't remember these as friendly.

I had a stuffed sesamys street character, an orange one called Zoe (same name as me). I always put her next to me on my bed so she would the closest one for these 2 spirits or whatever they were to take. As soon as I saw they come, I turned to the wall and never dared turn around and look. It was very uncomfortable to stay in the same position all night long, but they never touched me or did anything. Perhaps because I never looked?

It happened each night one or both of those doors were open. If two doors were open, the ghost came through one and the witch through the other one, if only one was open, they came through the same door. Later on I moved to a different country and when I came back at the age of 6 I didn't see anything.

But to be honest, I'm ever more scared not being able to see these "things" than seing them. . .

  82. Um, I came here to see if I could find a comparison. You see, I have a little 8-mo-old Yorkie; I got her in August of 2010. When she was 3 or 4 mo, I used to take her into the basement with me so I could play with her while I was on the computer. The basement is always ridiculously cold, but there's also a creepy pit-like crawl space right across from the computer. I used to get creeped out, and apparently she did, too, 'cause she used to bark and whine and roll around until I put her back upstairs. Now I have a comp in my room so I don't need to go down there. When she was 6 mo, I was playing with her when she bit me. As punishment I put her by the basement door, which is next to a hallway going by the dining room and leading to the front door. My brother and I were talking when suddenly we heard her bark really loudly. When we turned to look at her, she was growling intensely at a hutch in the dining room. No matter what we said or did, she would only growl at it. We took off her leash; usually she runs off immediately to play but she kept on growling. A few weeks ago, I was home alone playing with the puppy when she suddenly stared at the hutch again. Mind you, I'm in the living room now, so I have only the minutest glimpse of the hutch. To make it weirder, she actually started to move her head as though watching something move across the room into the kitchen. Eventually she snapped out of it and started playing again, but it scared the crap out of me. To make it worse, it seems to only happen when she's around me! My house is brand new: we pretty much watched it being built. But if we want to include ghosts into the equation: my grandfather died in April on his birthday and in great pain, just a couple of months before puppy was born and a few months before I got her. He was especially close to me, although we rarely ever spoke. I am one of three grandchildren he has, yet the only one he really ever paid attention to. I was supposed to see him before he died, but I was unable to make the arrangements to go to Barbados; at the funeral, I was supposed to play a song on the piano but they brought an organ instead (which I do NOT know how to play). Also, although my house is usually very, very warm, it has random moments where I'm absolutely freezing. I really, really don't want to imagine that there could be a ghost in my house, even if it's family. So I would like someone to bring up a logical explanation for my puppy's ridiculous behavior.

  86. So, I believe pets can see ghosts because when I was younger I had plenty of ghost/spirit experiences myself. So I have no doubt in my mind they would see or feel something as well. I'm posting because I just had an interesting experience.

A few weeks ago my Nephew who was only 21 passed away suddenly at his home. This was early in the morning on Jan 28th 2011. He was practically a little brother to me and it's been a very sad experience. Anyways, I am an artist and early this morning before I went to bed I decided to do a portrait of him. So it's finished and hanging on my wall waiting to be framed.

I'm in the bathroom with the door open, only me and my dogs are at home at the moment, and I hear growling and other miscellaneous dog noises coming from my bedroom.

I recognize the tone of the growl but go into my bedroom to see what's going on. It's my Golden Retriever and she's staring at my Nephew's Portrait. Since then she's been walking in and out of the room and she usually doesn't come in my room at all.

I took the Portrait down and showed it to her, comforted her a little and hung it back up.

I drew this with Love, I said. It's ok, it's Stephen, I said.

Keeping this in mind, people often feel uncomfortable with spirits whether they are good or not. I imagine the growl was more of a defensive, what's going on here?...This is a surprise, type of reaction.

This whole experience, which only happened about 10 mins ago now has actually made me very happy, a little sad because I miss him, but happy nonetheless.

  87. I feel animals are very sensitive to ghost and the energies they create. Whie working a case in an abandoned bowling alley some time back a dog wondered in and as soon as we started getting disturbances he started acting very odd. He stared at a corner of the room and when we looked up there was an orb that we could see with our naked eyes. It was amazing. After that we named him orby and he basically stayed at my apartment with me.

  88. Going through all the posts, I was amazed to find that so many people have researched and investigated on the topic. Probably the animals are not blessed with a higher level of neurons as human beings, and to compensate that god has given them a strong sixth sense and instinct. Dogs, cats and many insects have in them to absorb information from the surrounding which is irreceptible to us.

Have witnessed twice that a stray dog in our society crying loud looking towards someone's house, and some accident occurring to the family living there within few days next.

So they might have the powers to see the things which are unearthly and invisible to us.

  89. Hi everyone, im so glad i found this page because i once had a border collie x and he would be lying beside me at night while i was watching tv then all of a sudden his hair would stand up and he would jump up and start barking and growling at the wall, sometimes he would also sit and stare at the ceiling but he would get really excited wagging his tail as if he could see something i could not. anyway 1 morning i got up at 3am for work as i was on the early shift, i was washing my face and i heard a small child laughting! well the dog came running in the bathroom and sat bye my feet shaken like something startled him and it really scared me, my friend had also slept over at my house and reported waking up and seeing the figure of what looked like a small child in the same room. so yes i believe very strongly animals can see things we cannot, we already know dogs can sense things so they may also be able to sense changes in energy when a ghost is near. i have since moved from the propperty and had 2 different dogs and never experienced any weird stuff going on since then thank god! im just glad i never saw the ghost myself but i always had the feeling something was not right in that house

  90. there is a logic to this.human vision lies between the colours red(wavelength 0.004mm)and violet(0.007 mm).no other transverse waves are energetic enough for our eyes to catch.some animal can also sense and see infra red rays just like an x ray machine can catch x rays.ghosts are made of heat and give away infra red rays which are sensed by animals.between i am a science student and my teacher told that to me.

  91. Hi everyone,

today (9-03-2011) i was inside with my new puppy which is a bernese mountain dog, we were playing with his ball inside, then all of a sudden he dropped the ball and stared at the corner of the room, growling and barking at something which i could not see as i tried to calm him down he would continuously stare at this corner barking so loud it amazed me as he is a puppy.

not even 5mins later he did the same thing, i walked over to the corner, feeling uncomfortable and tried to call him over, he would back away not coming near me which he normally would if you called to him.

i feel like something was there by the way he reacted, so i looked into it to find this website, this has really re assured me that there are other things out there and i believe dogs can see them.

  92. Hi,

I decided to see if any other dogs have been behaving weird and found this info, so thought I would share my story with you guys, but my dog every now and then behaves this way he just twists round and barks may be where the telly is or can be on the landing sometimes it has been in the bedroom or kitchen our spirit seems to move around.

Our westie barks uncontrollably and we think it is something passing over to the other side, like one of these spirits that gets caught between this world and the next one we all have to go to eventually, even dogs.

Or he can see our german shepard who we had to put down because of his back legs went so he could not walk anymore, but sometimes he won't go into his bed or in a room.

  93. hi, i haven´t read all of the entries/comments on this site, but i am fairly convinced that humans and other animals can sense (feel, hear, and/or see) supernatural phenomena.. it seems as well that some individuals have more ability and/or opportunity to connect with spirits/ghosts.. it´s also possible that certain spirits/ghosts are more capable of making themselves perceivable.. whatever the case, i feel the same goes for animals regarding perception capabilities.. perhaps only some are more likely/able to perceive supernatural entities.. and since in my opinion animal spirits/ghosts exist as well, then they too may have varying ability to make themselves be perceived by mortal beings ..that being said, it would be fair and logical to assume that varying levels and frequency of supernatural activity and perception occurs overall..

now to speak about experiences, i had a rottweiler and never during his 10 years of life did he exhibit behaviour that would make me believe that he saw supernatural beings.. but at the house of a friend many years ago where we attempted to call upon a deceased friend via seance or ouija (can´t remember exactly which means it was) and as soon as we finished speaking our request to connect with this deceased friend, the dog of this residence unexpectedly started barking and growling very loudly and aggresively with his gaze fixed towards a high peaking corner of the ceiling in the centre of the room.. everyone was freaked out about it, especially the dog´s owner, as his dog had never done that before.. we all became very uneasy and did not pursue that endeavour any further..

as for cats, my direct experience has been very recent.. my predominantly outdoor cat loves coming indoors to be in the company of myself and most of my other family members, but on two occasions that i have personally witnessed so far she has displayed atypical behaviour.. this past Saturday in the afternoon and again on Monday in the late evening, she desired to come inside.. she barely made it to the end of the hall where my bedroom is located when on both occasions she immediately turned around and hurried back to the front door to be let outdoors.. there is a new dynamic in my household where my brother and his girlfriend (who claims to have been Wiccan) are residing at our home temporarily since this past Friday.. forgot to mention that my cat is super friendly and affectionate with everybody, even strangers.. she is curious and generally approaches others without hesitation.. so her unwillingness to venture downstairs (which is one of her favourite things to do, but where my brother and the girlfriend are currently occupying) along with her immense desire to remove herself completely from our indoor household environment, is very strange and unsettling.. today again she wasn´t interested in coming inside.. not sure what´s exactly going on with her perceptions, but conflict and negative energy is one thing that i can attest has increased here at home.. plus, my aunt (who is more sensitive to supernatural occurrences) has recently had an interesting yet somewhat frightening experience, which makes me consider the possibilty of evil forces that seem to stem from my household, since the supernatural episode happened when my other brother went to sleep over at her place to remove himself from the bizarre conflict that has been unfolding here at home with my other troubled brother together with his disturbed girlfriend (that i´ve already mentioned) who are new housemates due to complicated and bothersome circumstances..

  94. Recently my 3yr old black lab has been also showing odd behavior. It started about 2 month ago Jan 2011, she would be fast asleep on my bed, all of a sudden as if something were to hit her, she would "jerk" up and stare at the ceiling fan, from there she would keep her eyes up at the ceiling while running down the hall way watching something. This would last for about 15 min. at a time. Recently the same thing happend, always in my bedroom but this time she ran away terrified to the other room, ran around the table, hunched down as if something were hitting her, she than showed her teeth and the back of her hair was spiked. We tried to calm her down, but she was panting and terrified, this went on for about an hour. I have witnessed this most of the time and had told my husband about it, well he finally got to see it first hand, now he is realy worried and confused since this dog is the love of his life. The odd thing is, we have another dog English Bulldog he has never seen anything. My mother has come over with holy water and said prayers, this has done nothing. She sees something we cannot see, what? I do not know, I believe what ever she is seeing is realy troubling her, I do believe in ghosts, but now what?

  95. Being a dog trainer, I know dogs can see and hear things humans can't. I truly believe in ghost as I have had experiences myself. I sometimes know something is going to happen just before it happens, and my dogs as well as my sister's dogs seem to stare at the ceilings, (when they lived with me) my sisters dogs would growl, bark and stare. I have seen things out of the corner of my eye but when I look, there is nothing there. My lighter moved while it was on a pack of Cigs. So yes, i believe in ghost, and I know dogs can see and hear things that we can't

  96. I can say with 99% confidence that dogs do see and or sence what most would call a ¨Ghost¨. I have a police K9 and she is a very alert dog. Alert with confidence, not fear. She does not bark or get upset at noises caused by high winds, rain or anything ¨Normal¨that makes noise. I live in a home that for years has had ¨Odd¨ activity. Before I got my K9 partner, always late at night, we have had activity in one specific hallway. Not every night, but 4-5 times a month. This occurs with no set schedule or time of year. Sometimes 2 nights in a row, sometimes nothing for 2 weeks, sometimes 1 or 2 times a week. I work until midnight and arrive home, usually at 12:45am, si I don´t go to sleep until late. Sometimes I am up when she alerts. Her alert is a warning growl and then a deep warning bark. At the times I have been awake when she alerts, I have not heard or see anything. Granted, our K9 partners have sences we do not but I always investigate when she alerts and not once have I found anything. Again, being a police K9 she it trained to alert on real threats, not just because she is bored or playing a game. If we had not had a history of strange activity in our home before I got my K9 partner, I might dismiss it easier, but given the history of this old home and her alerts to things I do not see or hear at the time she is alerting, I would say YES, they see or sence things we as humans do not. Hope this information helps.

  98. Well, we bought a old fixer-upper a few years back just for resell. While working on the home I would bring my dog with me.. He would NOT go through the dinning room.. He would begin to shake and cower down.. He would walk as close as he could around the wall all the way around the room to get to the kitchen where we were, but NEVER though the middle of the room.. I do not know what my dog was seeing, but I am for sure something was there.. Once I went out side to wash paint brushes and left him inside the house. I hear all sorts of noises and my dog running. When I opened the door, he jumped to me and was scared to death.. You can't tell me something wasn't in that house....

  100. Hi,

I think so. We have ghosts in our house. We have two dogs and my youngest, age 10 will just stare into space at nothing. I think, she might be staring at a ghost. My parents live at my house and I do know that for a fact as I have seen them and talk to them. So, I wonder, if my dog, Ginger, has seen them too?

  101. My family got a puppy in January this year and he is almost 6 months old now. I came to this site because lately he has been sitting at the doors and just barking and growling. We usually see him barking at his own reflection when it is clear in the door and laugh at him but lately i have noticed that when the doors are open, he would sit there and bark and growl. He did it just before and it slightly bothered me. But around an hour ago, he bolted outside towards the backyard gate and looked like he was chasing something to the gate and was barking. I am home alone with my little sisters and we are so scared!

  107. My formed dog did the same and it is not a old house.

I think that it is related with the electronic circuit, may be some shortcut or something that emit a high-frequency sound, rats or pigeons.

But, i am not really convinced about it, because we didn't heard anything and the dog showed a bit threated and scared.

I have an 8 year old chihuahua and recently my grandfather died (we were close and it was in the middle of May). Just yesterday I was sitting on my computer searching things up when my chihuahua just started growling. I so happened to glance over to tell her to shush up because she would wake up my mom, but when I turned she was in this really still stance staring at my moms bookcase. When I looked at the bookcase I noticed what she was staring at was my grandfather's two steel horse firgurines. It was erie to see her doing that because she's really yappy and doesn't really growl, but the fact that it she was staring at my grandfather's two prized possessions comforted me, because I felt that maybe he was coming back for a slight visit :)

  112. Hi something weird used to happen to me when i was about 5, it was when i wanted my door shutting for the first time (i was little). Well thats when strange thing began to occur, i woke up late at night, and felt soft strokes going up and down my hair, i turned round and i saw this hand (this bit has not got thing to do with my dogs it will soon though) so i screamed and my dad came in he claimed it was a dream as it had dissapeared into thin air and it was that true and scary i got rid of my door!!! Later on when i was 8 i got a puppy called daisy i brushed off the hand thing, because daisy was not acting perculier, but when she was 1 she started sleeping on the end of my bed and occasionaly she would prick her ears up in the hallway while still on my bed and would sometime jump of my bed and growl defencivly in a scary position ... at nothing! After that i never let her on my bed again and she always slept downstairs. But she comes into my room sometimes and still does it i just press her ears down cause it gives me creeps. 1 year later when i was 9 we got a new dog called Max so Daisy was not alone. Max would never bark but he would prick his ears up (max is a softy). They still come up to my room and dads but they only do it if im upstairs with them??? Same like downstairs if dads upstairs and im downstairs they will do th esame thing but instead near the basement! Like once i was watching tv the basments behind the tv so they daisy would bark and try to get behind the tv and max followed and before we had max daisy would sit on the top landing looking at the bottom landing and sometimes max would do the same. And once when we were all asleep i woke up and something sounded like someone was in the kitchen walking around it could not of been dad because i heard him upstairs and suddenly the dog got out of the cage (because i could here them)and started barking at nothing then they just got into bed and stayed quiet... like a ghost told them to be quiet?? Do you think theres ghosts in my house???

  113. We got my daughter a yorkie for Christmas, perci. He sleeps with her every night but one night while she was in her bed and we were in ours I herd her scream mom/she sounded terrified. When I asked her what happened she said perci was watching and growling at something. Now take in to mind my daughter was 13 at the time and not scared of anything, but she begged me to sleep in her bed that night so I did. Every night now she watches tv before bed an keeps it on right until she gets sleepy an she pets his head trying to distract him because he always watches the door and window. It had stopped for a while but then the other night while she was brushing her teeth perci came running in whimpering and trying to hop on our bed that was the first time he had done anything like tht. My daughter is now terrified to sleep in her bed and to make things worse she watched paranormal activity the other day. Is there any idea on how to calm her down?

  114. Earlier tonight i was in my kitchen making a brew, and no one was in my house just me, and the dog suddenly jumped out of her bed and went and stood infront of the back door but faced me. She looked at me for a fraction of a second and then her eyes flitted to the kitchen door, but she looked like she was looking through it at the stairs, where the banisters are and started growling and lowered the front part of her body as if she was gonna start barking. so i looked through the door and nothing was there. Then she came closer to me and then did the same thing. so i got my drink and sat in the living room, and shut the door because i knew i wouldnt be able to open it again. while i was in the front room i felt like something was there and i was terryfied, and then i heard the dog run to the kitchen door and sniff and growl at the underneathe of the door. And i don't know what she could see. I've had a medium to my house before and she picked up on my late great grandad in my house and at the moment my great grandmother, his widow is in hospital. But all evening i have felt an overwhelming urge to cry and im wondering if his presence worrying about my great grandmother. Any ideas ?

Her hair would stand up n we couldn't shut her up. It always scared me. In our new home she has never done anything like that. We have been here over a year now.

  122. I believe dogs can see ghosts.

Less than 10 minutes ago, my dog was standing at the living room door, afraid to go in, growling and barking, running into the living room then running back out and hiding under the dining room table, still staring into the living room, afraid to go in. He's only 11 weeks old, and he's never barked or growled before, except for when he's playing.

We have been told there is a ghost in our house, possibly my Grandad, so I assume if Oli did see something, that's what he seen. :-)

  123. These posts are rather old,but i'd still like to comment.i have a lot of experience in this field.the oldest known book to mention ghosts is the bible.psychics are incorrect to claim that ghosts are friendly.ghosts are demonic spirits.relatives don't pay us visits from beyond except in cases where there's much importance to it and even then i'm sceptical.dogs and toddlers, see angels and demons both.it's a documented fact that dogs have an intelligencia of a 2 or 3 year old child, depending on the dog.so bare in mind that a 2 or 3 yar old child also, probably is sensitive to seeing spirits both good and bad.why?it's a matter of innocence.the mind being young and not cluttered with bias and opinion born out of emotions like suspicion, hate or jealousy .the mind is innocent and blameless at those ages.later, decisons of like and dislike are made from bias coming from feelings of partiality, judgement, etc.the mind is empty of knowledge that and hasn't yet set up boundaries of beleifs and decisions as what one believes or doesn't believe, what's evil and what's good.the mind accepts it all without question!

    ReplyDelete
  124. the mind becomes less innocent as we get older and in the course loses any sensitivity it had to being the antenna to the spirit world around us. as we grow older ,we're taught to dismiss such things as being foolish about ideas of faries and witches and genies as well as the fact we intentionally(and this is the most important)do anything we can to avoid seeing such things as ghosts, faeries ,etc,as we eventually believe if they exist then they're the boogey man..and the boogey man is scary.just that belief or fear alone blocks out any sensitivity at that point.animals don't have a sense of what the boogey man is 'nor does it frighten them to see the boogey man.people become fearful and that fear blocks any sensitivity we once had.if a person could go back in time to a period where they were young enough that they didn't yet know of ghosts and what being scared of the dark is,and WHY might scared of the dark to begin with, this sensitivity would return.animals see these things.ask yourself this--what animal do you know of has the sense to be scared of ghosts? what animal do you know of that is afraid of the dark? none.people lose their sensitivity as they get older simply because their humans.jesus commanded his followers to be child like in their nature.why? for sensing spiritual situations and being able to discern between the good and evil. a person child like in personality is kind ,loving, generous and loving unconditionally with no bias and no partiality attached whatsoever.no judgementalism-this is why children see both sides.there's nothing been put into their minds yet to block the sensitivity/.the "flow" for lack of a better term.did you know that if you've been awake for a long time without sleep that you're mind is more sensitive to both sides of the realm? think about things that have happened in the past and how you've felt at times when you've been awake for a long time.people sometimes take those flashes of white light or voice they heard momentarily for being overtired.i've seen things that would make any of those pentecostal minister goofs on TV run for the hills.not boasting.just fact.--this is the first post on the net that i've said much about this at all.but yes, animals see ghosts..angels and demons . many times, i've seen my dog looking at something and just stare into mid air at it and even wag his tail,as though someone is talking to him.i don't believe this is a relative,i believe it's an angel.other times i've seen him look at something in the room and bark as though concerned.demonic?? ghost?? i wasn't sure but in those instances i command the thing be gone using the name of jesus.a strange feeling of being 'alone' in the room suddenly is usually the overwhelming feeling, leaving me to believe that indeed some thing was there. if you're animal is sensing something in the house at all.do something about it.while it's nice to know animals see these things, keepin mind that there's a reason that they're created as such.to warn us..not to just become a topic of online converation.there's a reason.this is the first and last time i'm leaving a post ,with this much info about my experience with this stuff,as too many people will use this as a reason to blast religion or belief in scripture./throwing pearls before swine just to be trampled ..meaning presenting somethingn precious to people only to have it trodded upon and smashed on by those who don't believe.take heed though in what i say.animals are warning you of intruders who don't belong if they see these things.whether the animal is warning you intentionally or just reacting to what it sees at the time isn't important./

  125. Hi Everyone !

I've come across this as I was searching as to why all of a sudden my dog will not enter the kitchen . Only today in the past few hours has this happened. Now I am extremely open to spirits and have been all my life but I can't sense anything in there . However for the past 3 month I have had n odd light at the bottom of my stairs . When I contacted a medium about this he said its to do with my family & that any white light is good... My dog will sit at the bottom of the stairs for hours playing away , I wonder if this is connected ?

If there are any mediums on here which are willing to give me advice please email me on

    Lolz_davies@live.co.uk

Or if anyone would just like to chat about their experiences like mine please feel free to contact me :) thanks ! X

    1) let your daughter know paranormal activity is not real ! The film is a horror out to scare people & make money . If she was to read up about nothing indicates that it is a true story :)

    2) dogs are powerful animals . They protect us humans .

At the gates of hell lucifer has a dog guarding ... It keeps spirits in and others out . On earth they do the same , dogs are not evil , the have kind pure souls , so her dog will always protect her .

This spirit may not mean any harm , some are just playful & some are just annoying lol

Maybe you and your family should sit in that room , food closed & light white candles , use salt as protection ... Sprinkle some around you & the candles then calmly , whilst holding hands , speak to the spirit . Let them know that you know they are there , ask them why and how . But after you have those answers kindly thank the spirit & ask him / her to leave & go towards the light .

If you have trouble with this get a medium in :) but I have done this before and it has worked :) x

  128. My sister brought a table from a thrift shop, it broke before it entered the house but I took it anyway. I recently got a chocolate lab puppy, I took the table out to fix it last night and my dog freaked out, she would not eat in the kitchen and when she did come in had her tail between her legs and kept watching the table. She finally hid in the bathroom and refused to come out. I went to remove the table from the apartment and the puppy took one look and ran and hid behind the sofa, once the table was outside, she returned to normal and is once again playing and eating,

  132. My best friend's passed away last night in his home. They have 5 dogs. My friend told me that, as soon as he took his last breath, all of the dogs in the house suddenly started barking. I was looking online to see if anyone else has mentioned something like this happening, but this is the closest thing I could find. I do believe that animals and children can see spirits.

My uncle died in 2004, when my nephew was just over a year old. When my nephew was about 4 years old, he would sit in his room by himself and just talk, then he would come tell us that he was talking to our uncle. A few times he would mention interesting things, like talking about a hat that had belonged to our uncle. He was so young when our uncle died that I have a hard time believing that he even really remembers him at all. Unfortunately he is now 8 and has since stopped these activities.

Also, this was in the 80s before I was even born, but my parents lived in a house that has since been up for sale about every other year. No one wants to stay in it for some reason. They had a cat that would refuse to enter a certain room of the house. If they would carry it in, as soon as they crossed into that room it would claw at them to get away. They had a detached garage and would randomly hear extremely loud banging noises, like pots and pans being thrown around, but when they would go out there nothing would be moved. Both of my parents have said they have seen a man standing in the doorway of their room in the middle of the night. This is not something my dad would readily admit to, he's not into that kind of stuff. After repeatingly seeing this, they were worried enough that they decided to move.

  135. My dog do not bark at all but he just stares at the sky. He hides under tables or run back to the car. One minute he is happily playing ball or Agility. When all of a sudden he will look at the sky and the next thing he is running aimless and should anyone try to stop him he snaps air. This is the reason I am searching for answers.

  136. I was sitting at my kitchen table, today, with my 7 month old boy at my feet. All of a sudden, my beagle put his two front paws on my leg and was shaking uncontrollably. A rythmic chirp had started and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. My dog is still shaking and looking in the air all around. Very unsettling.

  137. My dog is about 3 in a half. The past few days she has been peeing and pooping all over the house. She hides in my room for a very long time. Monday-Thursday, she is left home alone for 6 to 7 hours. She sometimes stares at a spot in the living room, intently with her face scrunched up. We have had some paranormal activity before, but we had the house blessed. Things stopped for a long time, and now I think they are coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I'm not suppose to believe in things like spirits, but back when I was in high school, I fooled around with things like that and have seen things, so it's hard not to. Also, my pug, she sometimes, if not more, stares at our living room window and starts shaking, and barking and whinnnig for no reason. One night, she did it so much, it scared my sister so much that she and my niece went upstairs. Things like that give me the creeps.
