How to Summon Bloody Mary – The Bloody Mary Urban Legend

‘Seven years bad luck,
For those who break it,
Inside out,
This doorway taketh,
Where Demons hide,
And Witches grin,
Waiting there,
To drag you in.’

Mirrors are Scary
Behind the tainted glass of a mirror lies another world, a world very similar to ours, but most definitely not the same. Who knows which rules hold true in that world, and who knows what lurks inside.
‘Eisoptrophobia’ is the fear of mirrors, but even those not seriously inflicted with Eisoptrophobia may be nervous around or fearful of ‘mirrors’. Mirrors have been used to great effect as a portal between plains in many horror movies, and have numerous urban legends surrounding them, not least of which is the tale of ‘Bloody Mary’.
Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary

So you’re not afraid of mirrors, right?
Of course you’re not; you’re a big brave adult with real problems to deal with who doesn’t have time to get caught up in such childish nonsense.
So go to the Bathroom and begin staring into the mirror, stare deep into it, at first your thoughts will be of smudged lipstick or the need to shave, but keep staring.
Soon you’ll most likely begin to feel mildly at unease, a feeling you’ll attempt to shake off by reminding yourself how silly it all is, and by flashing yourself a half-smile that your mirror twin flashes right back at you. Keep staring and feel your unease grow, and feel your trust in your own reflection fade, notice the differences between yourselves and feel the chills run down your spine as your reflection stares intently back at you.
Keep staring into your reflections unblinking eyes, and watch as the room around it alters, slight but distinct distortions, little movements normally unnoticed, light and darkness messing with your mind, then gaze over the shoulder of your mirror twin, and notice how they nervously gaze back over yours, fearful of whatever it is, that’s sneaking up behind you.
Mary Worth
Mary Worth
Bloody Mary the Mirror Witch
Bloody Mary's origin is hazy, some say she is a witch named 'Mary Worth' who was executed for practicing the arts of black magic, some say she is the vengeful spirit of a woman who was horribly disfigured in a car crash, others think she was once a medieval Queen who killed virgins for their blood, in which she bathed.
Whilst the tales of Bloody Mary’s origins may differ significantly, the details of how to summon her usually follow a similar pattern, the repetition of her name a specified number of times spoken whilst looking into a mirror, and then upon being summoned Bloody Mary is said to appear and then attack, kill or drag her summoner back through the mirror to endure a life of unthinkable horror.
How to call or summon Bloody Mary
Should you want to risk your life or endure a life-time of nightmarish torture trapped inside a mirror then the most commonly believed method for the successful summoning of the mirror witch goes as follows:
* To call Bloody Mary you must be in a room devoid of all light. This is best acheived at night to minimise light from the sun entering, but any light from outside or under doors, etc. must be blocked out.
* You must be in the room alone. If you’re part of a group then take turns, but for the summoning to work, it must be just you, and the mirror.
* You must repeat her name ‘Bloody Mary’ thirteen (13) times whilst spinning in front of the mirror.
* To complete the summoning of Bloody Mary after the twelfth repetition you must stop spinning and lean in close towards the mirror, look directly into it, and call out her name for the thirteenth time.
It is at this point that Bloody Mary is then said to appear and attack you, so either you’ll be sorely disappointed, relieved, or set-upon by one very pissed off mirror witch.

  4. Good grief! I was petrified of mirrors as a kid! A boy at my primary school, James Hall, told me his Grandma had died after saying some spell or prayer (forget now) whilst looking in a mirror holding a candle, in the dark. Being 6 I immediately focused on her glorified horrible death(she was old and died of old age) and believed James' tale of the devil appearing and taking her soul. I also bypassed the candle and mirror aspect.

I covered every mirror in the house - for years. Drove my dad nuts :)

Over it now though I avoid staring into mirrors or long periods. That's when I start to notice things I don't like. Such as a grey hair or some such. I'm an ancient frog getting ...

  5. I don't think I will try it. I can't handle all that spinning any more. LOL Is there no other way? I don't like me in the mirror anymore. I look so, so old.

  7. here is my mirror story.

I have a full length mirrior, that I hate. It was given to me as my only High School Graduation present, so I keep it. In my teen years, living off in a nasty apartment of one room and a toilet, right by the railroad tracks...I awoke in the middle of the night. I had engaged in some ..partying? earlier..I staggerd to the toilet...and as I walked past my mirrior, I tried to not look as I dont enjoy the sight of myself all that much, but I looked anyway...and as I walked past the mirror, my reflection was on the opposite side from my actual self. I stood on the right, my reflection was on the left, as I walked by, I passed my self as you would pass a stranger on the street, I saw my head turn opposite of how I was really turning and look at me....I suppose I was drunk and off, but it was quite odd and scared me a bit. My cats would not come near me that night, they hissed and hid from me.

  8. I'm a scaredy cat so I'll take your word for it. I'm more worried that the reflection in the mirror makes me look better than I really am!

  14. Me and all of my friends tried it.. we took turs and it never happened!! We were gettin all worked up andscared and it never happened!!! We went in andd each of us did the same thing and it didnt happen for any of us. But I do have a mirrir story tht happened to mee.. her it is... I heard 666 was the demon # so I wrote it all over my brothers mirror in a red dry erase marker. When I was wwriting it for the 6th time the mirror fell off of the wall and broke. It only broke in half so I picked it back up ( it was only a small wall mirror)As I was taking to my mom to show her tht it "fell off the wallthe marker was rolling down the glass like blood. As i was staring into the mirror it cut my hand open. It was a 1 inch gash on the inside of my hand.. hurt like hell. I looked back ito the mirror and couldnt see my reflection. For the rest of tht nite I was scared to death and my cats hissed and stayed away from me.... scary ass fuckk man!!!

at that time i was so scared that in one of my dreams she said "i let u go because u are little , on this exacted day which is december 4,2008, and on'' then she stopped. then she finished'' december4, 2016 she will come back and say' when u turn 18 on july3. 2016 i will come and take u with me so u can help me kill virgins JUST LIKE YOU!

Then she was gone and i never saw her again, well only when i say her name in a mirror three times. well. i told yo she is frickin back somebody call 91---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------''THIS IS BLOODYMARY AND IF ANY ONE CALLS 911 I WILL COMR AND FIND U don't''

  23. I have actually tried this and one of two things will happen, one: you will see her in the mirror or, two: you will dream of her and she will attack you there. I dreamt of her and in my dream she touched me and screeched me when I woke I looked at my hand were she scratched me I had that scratch on my hand. Creppy stuff don't play with it, it's serious

  25. This is funny! I remember girl friends used to try it at slumber parties as a teen but I never saw anything. My friend did come out spooked with cuts on her face and wouldn't talk about it later....I don't know. I saw its not good to invite that sort of stuff into your house because once its there it might not want to leave....

as far as the story of Bloody Mary's origin I wouldn't have a clue but reading what you stated "medieval Queen who killed virgins for their blood, in which she bathed." makes me thing of the Blood Countess Elizabeth Bathory who bathed in the blood of virgins to quench her thirst for eternal beauty also would stare in a mirror all day because of she was so vain...another possible influence to the Brother's Grimm tale of the Evil Queen in Snow White who wanted to be "fairest of them all"......so interesting how tales take on a life of their own down the years. Good post by the way!

  27. That was halarious! Especially the end, "or set on by one very pissed off mirror-witch!" HAHA!! I LOVE IT!! I think my boyfriend is going to try it right now in the bathroom! HAHA!! And I loved how you brought the story in! It was awesome! That is precisely why I said on one of your other posts, I LOVE URBAN LEGENDS!! Once you read them, unless you do some research quickly before you actually start to think about the story, it's GOING to take some type of Pyschological toll on you!

  28. Hmm... I've studied Urban Legends like "Bloody Mary", and it certainly has had an impact on today's pop culture. Many versions of the tail have been told (including one called"AIDS Mary" who gives you AIDS if you have unprotected sex with her.)

  29. Im not sure if this really did happen but, back at my days in elementary i was having some chats with my firends when i overheard some kids talking about bloody mary. Ended up eavesdropping and heard one of them said "My cousin tried it once and his arm broke with the bones sticking out, he got sent to the hospital after that."

But i dont really know if that happened, i mean, you know how kids always make up tall tales right?

  30. hi there Mrvoodoo! ive just been reading some of your posts today. first lemme say well done on all the ones ive read.

this hub reminded me of a sleepover wen i was younger. i was at my cousins and we were telling scary stories (which never seem to scare me anyway) and then subject of bloody mary came up. so we were trying to "summon bloody mary" (it failed XD darn) but the rest of the night everyone just kinda hid under the covers...and then we could hear something moving outside the covers. we thought it was the cat but the cat was in her brothers room...we also thought we heard some tpping on the window...but that was years ago. lo|

  32. Ah. So there I was with my friend (whose name just so happened to be mary O_O)

She's tellin me shit about "bloody mary" in the school hallways n she suggests we summon this bitch.

So me, thinkin it wasnt real blah blah blah (I was about 7 or 8 at the time, yes very young). So we go into the school bathroom and turn off the lights. I got all nervous x) Then she tells me to turn around n say bloody mary's name a few times. So I'm reluctantly spinnin around and bam! Something hits me. I screamed as loud as I could and booked it the fuck out the door. I sat in the hallway for like, 10 mins and my friend never came out. So I built up the guts to go back in and get her. The lights were on and I saw my friend int he corner, face to the floor. She appeared to be crying. I rushed over to her an lifter her head. She was laughing! -_-

She tricked me that bitch! xD ahah anyways, I don't believe in her but I'm pretty creeped out by it o: haha
